Do I have to register my assistance dog? ＋
No. There is no legal requirement and no statutory register in Ireland. An ID simply makes proving your dog is a working assistance dog faster and calmer.
Is this official or government-backed? ＋
No, and we will never say it is. We are a private voluntary register, not affiliated with the WRC, IHREC, any Government body, or any charity.
Are owner-trained assistance dogs allowed? ＋
Irish law does not create a statutory assistance dog register or require a specific training organisation. What matters is that the dog genuinely assists with a disability and stays under control in public, so a dog you trained yourself is not shut out by law.
Does the card guarantee my dog gets in everywhere? ＋
No. Your rights come from the Equal Status Acts, and a calm, trained dog is what secures access. A dog that is out of control can still lawfully be asked to leave.
